Rudy contributed to countless environmental, cultural, and political organizations. He often applied his own informal metrics, such as whether he felt their appeals economized on paper and used exactly the right postage.
Among his many campaigns, his biggest goal was to preserve forests, wilderness, and animal habitats, through strategies such as land grants and easements, strategic reforestation efforts, and climate change mitigation.
While he admired well-known organizations such as The Nature Conservancy, The Environmental Defense Fund, and Friends of the Earth—whose founders and supporters were often his friends and acquaintances—he preferred smaller groups that, like Friends of Nature, punched above their weight. These organizations—several of which preserve undeveloped areas of the Maine and Nova Scotia coasts—merit your support.
